Withers’ new book of prose poems takes us on a harrowing trek through denial, descent, and resurrection in the Honolulu gay community in the wake of the AIDS epidemic. Of her new book, author and professor Truong Tran writes “There are rare times when poetics and politics collide to create a lasting mark. Like Ginsberg's Howl, [A Communion] documents time and place, only this time informed by the anguish of loss in the wake of the AIDS epidemic.” Withers will be joined by a host of local writers, including Toni Mirosevich, Truong Tran, Dustin Heron, Megan Rea Freudenberger, Barbara Jane Reyes, Ali Lawrence, Craig Perez, Brian Thorstensen, and Zaid Shlah.
